The Water Lover’s Retreat! ~ A Yoga, Meditation, and Nature Immersion
Bocas Del Toro, Panama Retreat with Amie Heeter and Stephanie Chee Barea
This retreat is for the sincere water lovers – the merpeople we are at heart, who find the water to be a kin element. This retreat is also for those who hold dear the influences of yoga, meditation, and relationship to Spirit. We will immerse ourselves in this unique island environment, exploring themes of connection, replenishment, and water’s role in ritual to cleanse, hold creative intentions, and carry the vibration of our prayers. We’ll center teachings and practices that celebrate our relationship to the waters, and co-create sacred, transformational space together.
Daily yoga will include breath-centered, vitalizing, slow-flow yoga and breath work (pranayama), meditation, mantra, yoga nidra, writing prompts, dharma talks, and playtime! We will have plenty of free time to explore the gorgeous surroundings of this tropical island oasis and learn about the culture and legacy of this ancient archipelago.
Amie & Steph teach a slow-flow, breath-centered yoga practice intelligently sequenced to bring about specific mental and energetic effects. Their style is inclusive, clear, and warm. As master guides, they know how to hold each individual while also remaining connected to the collective community present in the space.
Amie & Steph highly respect the transformative practices of pranayama, meditation, mantra, and yoga nidra they have received from the tradition of the Himalayan Sages and they consistently infuse their offerings with these more subtle components of yoga practice, connecting to the living roots of this ancient spiritual tradition. Their main influences are the Tantric Hatha Yoga system known as Parayoga, the Himalayan Institute faculty including Pandit Rajmani Tigunait and Shari Friedrichsen, emergent teachers Tracee Stanley and Sherri Mitchell, and many more from over 20 years of study and experience. What truly connects Amie & Steph is that Nature was their first teacher, and continues to be an intimate part of their practice and inspiration.
Join Amie & Steph in March of 2023 for a water-lovers retreat in Bocas Del Toro, Panama!

Amie is a nature enthusiast, adventurer, and lifelong learner particularly motivated by the intersection of mind/body traditions of the East and modern research sourced in neuroplasticity in the West. A yoga and meditation teacher since 2004, she regards the systems of yoga, meditation, and mindfulness as some of the best technologies available to sustain health in the body, cultivate stability and resilience in the mind, and open pathways to the heart. Amie began practicing yoga in 1999 while traveling with a friend in Mexico. Like so many, her curiosity led to dedicated practice and soon after the desire to share these timeless, transformative practices. Amie received her first teaching certifications in 2003 and 2004 through the Integral Yoga Institute. In 2007 she began studying with Yogarupa Rod Stryker, founder of Parayoga and received the esteemed Level 1 certification in 2014. Mentorship with Parayoga offered significant training with the practices and profound impacts of pranayama, meditation, mantra, and yoga Nidra. These studies led her into the systems of Sri Vidya, tantra, and the lineage of the Himalayan Masters. Amie continues to study with Rod Stryker, Pandit Rajmani Tigunait, and senior teachers of the Himalayan Institute. She hosts group classes, Advanced Yoga Studies courses, and regional and international retreats, and works privately with individuals.
Also a lifestyle photographer, Amie is a visual storyteller who loves to capture the wonder of the world around her. She recently took part in documenting the release of wolves into Isle Royale National Park and photographed an intimate tour in the south of India. She filmed a TEDx talk last fall entitled “The Radical Sabbatical and the Power of Pressing Pause.” She lives in Madison, WI, with her husband and two daughters.

Testimonials
“Just got back from an unforgettable experience at The Christine Center and a yoga/meditation retreat. It was exactly what my mind, body, and spirit needed…Thank you @amie.heeter for your insightful teachings through your words, movements, and spirit. Thank you to the beautiful women and men who shared this experience, especially those I connected with on a deeper level. This will be with me for quite some time.” – Gina (Past retreat participant)
“Amie’s course guided me honestly and gently to the next stage of my journey, and I am truly grateful. Amie’s course is different from any other yoga course/workshop I have taken in that it is steeped in the ancient yoga philosophy yet described with such relevance to our lives today. Amie’s wisdom and knowledge are inspiring, and the course material was presented in a lighthearted and fun way. The Moon Tier provides a sense of grounding and quiet and for me a sense of preparation.” – Alexia (Yoga Studies course participant)
“The experience of the Advanced Yoga Studies Course is truly changing me in a way that feels like I can be more of the person I want to be as I walk through this life. Amie’s guidance and joy about sharing her knowledge of yoga are key for this transformation in me. The skills and knowledge I have learned are already helping me to BE with the ‘what is’ of life and not fight things as they come my way. For that alone, I am grateful. I highly recommend the course to anyone, at any stage of life—I am in my 60s now. The commitment was well worth it.” -Cheryl (Yoga Studies course participant)
